FAQ

(1) After receiving a scholarship this year, am I eligible to reapply for the same scholarship next year?

The eligibility criteria for reapplying to a scholarship program vary depending on the scholarship provider and their specific guidelines. Some scholarships allow recipients to reapply in subsequent years, while others may have restrictions or limitations on reapplication. GLH foundation does accept the reapplication candidates.

It is important to carefully review the scholarship guidelines and any information provided by the scholarship provider regarding reapplication. If there is no specific information available, you can reach out to the scholarship provider directly to inquire about their policy for reapplying.

In some cases, scholarship programs may have specific requirements for reapplying, such as maintaining a certain GPA, demonstrating continued financial need, or making satisfactory academic progress. It is essential to understand and fulfill these requirements if you plan to reapply.

Keep in mind that even if you are eligible to reapply, it does not guarantee that you will receive the scholarship again. Each application is typically evaluated on its own merits and competitiveness, and new applicants may be considered alongside returning recipients.

Overall, it is advisable to thoroughly review the scholarship guidelines and communicate with the scholarship provider for accurate information regarding reapplication eligibility and requirements.

(2) How are scholarship applications evaluated and decisions made regarding scholarship award?

The evaluation and decision-making process for scholarship applications can vary depending on the scholarship program and the organization administering it. However, there are some common factors and considerations that often come into play during the evaluation process:

1. Eligibility criteria: The scholarship committee will review each application to ensure that applicants meet the basic eligibility requirements stated in the scholarship guidelines. This may include criteria such as academic achievements, financial need, field of study, or other specific requirements.

2. Application completeness: The scholarship committee will assess whether applicants have submitted all required documents and information accurately and completely. Incomplete or improperly filled-out applications may be disqualified from consideration.

3. Academic achievements and qualifications: Scholarship committees often consider an applicant’s academic record, including GPA, class rank, and standardized test scores. They may also look at the rigor of the applicant’s coursework and any honors or awards received.

4. Essays and personal statements: Many scholarships require applicants to submit written essays or personal statements. These essays provide insights into the applicant’s goals, experiences, motivations, and character. The scholarship committee will evaluate the quality, clarity, and depth of these written responses.

5. Letters of recommendation: Some scholarships request letters of recommendation from teachers, mentors, or other individuals who can speak to the applicant’s abilities and potential. These letters can provide additional insights into the applicant’s character, achievements, and suitability for the scholarship.

6. Financial need: For GLH scholarship foundation that consider financial need as one of its key factor for considerations, applicants may need to provide detailed information about their financial circumstances, including income, expenses, and supporting documentation. The scholarship committee will evaluate this information to determine if the applicant meets the financial need criteria.

7. Selection committee review: A selection committee or panel will review and evaluate the applications. They may individually assess applications or hold group discussions to make decisions collaboratively.

8. Decision-making and notification: Based on the evaluation and discussion, the selection committee will choose the scholarship recipients. Applicants typically receive notification about the decision through email or mail. Successful applicants will be informed of the award details, while unsuccessful applicants may receive a rejection notice.

(3) When will applicants be notified about the decision regarding their scholarship application?

The GLH scholarship review committee aims to notify applicants as soon as possible after the evaluation process is complete. However, due to the possible high volume of applications received and the complexity of the evaluation process, it may take several weeks or even months for the scholarship committee to review all applications and make final decisions.

If a scholarship program has specified a notification timeline, it is important to be patient and wait until that timeframe has passed before reaching out to inquire about the decision. If there is no specified timeline, it is advisable to wait at least a few weeks after the application deadline has passed before contacting the scholarship program for an update.

If you have not received any notification by the specified timeline or a reasonable amount of time has passed, it is appropriate to reach out to the scholarship program to inquire about the status of your application. Contacting the scholarship program directly will provide you with accurate and up-to-date information about the decision-making process for that specific scholarship program.

Keep in mind that scholarship programs receive a large number of applications and may not be able to provide individual updates on every application. However, they will typically communicate the final decision to all applicants, whether they have been selected as recipients or not.

(4) Are letters of recommendation necessary for scholarship applications?

As part of the application process, the GLH scholarship program does require and ask for letters of recommendation in any format.

Letters of recommendation serve the purpose of providing additional insight into the applicant’s qualifications, character, achievements, and potential. They offer an outside perspective and can help scholarship committees assess an applicant’s suitability for the scholarship which may increase your chances of success.

(5) Is it necessary to call and inquire about the application review process?

It is generally not necessary to call and inquire about the application review process unless the scholarship program explicitly encourages or instructs applicants to do so. The GLH scholarship program will have a standardized process in place for reviewing applications and notifying applicants of the decision.

Scholarship programs usually receive a large number of applications, and the review process can take some time to complete. It is important to be patient and wait for the specified timeline or a reasonable amount of time to pass before expecting a decision.

In summary, unless explicitly instructed by the scholarship program, it is generally not necessary to call and inquire about the application review process. It’s best to be patient and wait for the specified timeline or a reasonable amount of time to pass before seeking an update on your application.

(6) To whom, where, or how will the scholarship funds be sent?

The method and process for disbursing scholarship funds can vary depending on each application case which is further depending on the GLH scholarship program operation and the admission department of the applicant’s university. In most cases, scholarship funds are typically sent directly to the recipient or their educational institution. There are a few common methods for disbursing scholarship funds:

1. Direct payment to the recipient: In some cases, scholarship funds may be sent directly to the recipient. This typically occurs when the scholarship is awarded to an individual who is already enrolled in an educational institution.

2. Payment to the educational institution: In most of cases, especially for scholarships awarded to students who are not yet enrolled in an educational program, the scholarship funds may be sent directly to the educational institution. The GLH scholarship funds are applied towards tuition, fees, or other special educational expenses, but not the expenses associated with room, board, food, entertainment, and living expenses.

3. Check or electronic transfer: Scholarship funds are often disbursed through checks or electronic transfers. Recipients may be required to provide their banking information or details for direct deposit.

If you are awarded a scholarship, it’s important to follow any instructions provided by the scholarship program regarding the acceptance of the funds and any reporting requirements, if applicable.

(7) What is the scope of financial coverage of the GLH scholarship program?

The financial provider and the founder of the GLH trust fund has a personal philosophy and belief that his established scholarship program only covers tuition, fees, and certain special educational expenses. However, it does not cover expenses such as room and board, food and entertainment, and other living costs.

After personally experiencing 17 years of college education in the US, the founder earned his living expenses alongside his wife, while scholarships from various universities took care of tuition and fees. This real-life struggle taught him valuable lessons about the appreciation of value of money and the respect for the working class. Based on these experiences, the founder made the decision that the GLH scholarship program would not include stipends or living expenses. He believes that facing and overcoming such real life challenges helps build special characters and an appreciation for financial rewards.

(8) Why does the GLH scholarship program only cover undergraduate education and not graduate school?

The decision to focus solely on undergraduate education for the GLH scholarship programs is driven by several factors. Firstly, while the percentage of adults in the US with college degrees has increased recently (from 37.9% in 2009 to 53.7% in 2021), but there is still a significant portion of the population, almost half, who do not have a college education. Therefore, GLH scholarship foundation intends to prioritize and support this group of individuals.

Undergraduate education is seen as a critical foundation for future advancements in both higher education and career prospects. By providing financial assistance to candidates who may lack the means to complete their basic college education, the GLH scholarship program aims to contribute to their overall educational and professional growth in their lifetimes.

By focusing on undergraduate education, the foundation hopes to bridge the educational gap and provide opportunities for those who may not have had access to higher education due to financial constraints. This targeted approach aligns with the foundation’s mission of empowering individuals through education and creating a positive impact on their lives and future prospects.

(9) Why does the GLH scholarship program focus on the children of US veterans?

The decision to prioritize the children of US veterans for the GLH scholarship program stems from a deep sense of gratitude and appreciation. The founder of the GLH trust fund personally experienced the tremendous impact of receiving an excellent college education in the USA. Both Professor Andrews and Professor Jones played instrumental roles in providing him with the necessary engineering background at the University of Iowa and guiding him into and through MIT’s advanced engineering curriculum.

Moreover, the founder recognizes the vital role played by the mighty US military in protecting and preserving this great nation. The dedication and sacrifices made by US veterans allowed him to focus on his own education, career, enterprise, and medical research endeavors. As a mark of gratitude, he aims to extend this kind of support to the families of US veterans through the GLH scholarship program.

By focusing on US veteran’s children, the foundation seeks to honor the sacrifices made by veterans and provide educational opportunities to their families as a gesture of appreciation. The founder firmly believes in the transformative power of education and the importance of supporting those who have selflessly served the country.
